This filter can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass, and it also saturates colours to provide better contrast. The effects of polarising filters are often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun. Although this filter enables colours to become more saturated and appear clearer, it does not affect the overall colour balance of a shot.
